Softly and Tenderly

December 2 2007 Opening December 2 2007 Sermon and Closing Hello Readers, As I skimmed the service in today's links, I was struck by the time of preparation and celebration of Advent. In my family growing up, we often set out candles and had our own observance during this time of year. I have fond memories of singing, reading scriptures, and playing instruments.   I also happened to notice the opening song is in 3 -- a favorite meter of Dad's -- some might even say he could play any hymn in 3. Thanks for reading. Stay well, AmyBH

Shall We Gather at the River?

November 25 2007 In this service: Dad opens the gathering with Shall We Gather at the River?, sister does much of the worship leading, niece and brother-in-law share about recent travels to El Barbasco, Honduras.  Hello Readers, I like how this hymn opens with a question and then answers it over and over with each refrain. Similarly, I gathered this week with my loved ones to remember my Uncle Butch who died 10/19/2025 at age 81. He lived a full life up to his final moments. He coached a runner on Saturday. He called his sister and niece (me) on Tuesday. He sent a birthday card to his great, great, nephew. He even went out and finished a serving of shrimp scampi with his wife of over 50 years, who had no idea this would be their last meal together. Uncle Butch delighted in his yard and especially found pleasure in decorating for the holidays. He told me on the phone last week that they had some lights out and a big spider for Halloween. The tradition was to exchange the spid...

Got a lot to do today!

Hello Readers, It's been a busy week with extra unexpected business here at the end. I am excited to say my grandson turned 2 today. We plan to celebrate with him tomorrow.  I have a service posted below, I only listened to my Dad's opening. Today's title is something my dad used to say, when he said it came out as 3 words, "Gottalot todo today." Dad also said, "We say hopefully a lot"-- to which I say cheers to that as I look to writing more in next week's Blog. Thanks for reading. Stay well, Amy BH 11/18/2007

I Love to Tell the Story

Hello Readers!  Great opening Hymn in today's link. I was glad to hear Dad's signature start, 'Welcome to Monitor'. As I read through the lyrics, I noticed the story itself is not revealed. The writer's feelings and enthusiasm come through in the words and tune. The passion of each statement reveals a sense of hope, comfort, and joy.  Lately, I am feeling well and motivated to do some odd jobs around our house. Cheers to staying motivated! Thanks for reading.
