It Is Well With My Soul

February 17 2008   February 17 2008 (track 2?) Around 27 Minutes - My sister mentions that Dad is gone due to needeing medicine for a sinus infection.  "...but lungs seems to be clear..." that statement is alarming to hear due to Dad's lack of lung capacity leading to his need for oygen during his last month in 2013. Other than hearing violin and maybe piano I didn't note any other possible family involvement.  Hello Readers, Happy end of 2025, I spent yesterday with my husband cooking a huge turkey dinner and am now enjoying a refrigerator full of leftovers.  Looking at the church service date I realized it took place on a dear childhood friend (SB's) 40th birthday. We are no longer in touch other than that I hear from her mom from time to time on social media and through cards. SB was the friend down the street, we played Barbies, we did make-up and hair together. She could keep-up on a sled without getting cold. She could swim and loved it as much as I did. She...

Praise Him, Praise Him

February 3 2008   Hello Readers, Today my dad opens the service with another hymn in a meter of 3. A violin is also playing (my brother-in-law I presume). I can hear my sister's voice singing along with the congregation.  Next, announcements are made regarding a successful youth fundraiser, followed by an organ prelude. Call to Worship -- another Hymn -- Scripture Reading -- Offering -- prayer requests (some not on the microphone) at 34'40" mom asks for prayers for a friend who lost his daughter, Becky (54), in a SCUBA accident. This family is so close to ours -- I was the flower girl in Becky's wedding. So sad, --mom was especially close with Becky's mom, who passed many years earlier.  Next - Hymn of prayer "Spirit of Got Descend Upon Our Hearts" -time of prayer - reading from scripture. Sister delivers a unique sermon - reflecting on the scripture reading from Peter starting at about 49' speaking as the wife of Simon Peter and how she had never met...

Blessed Are They

January 27, 2008 links Track 1 Gathering/announcements Track 6 Sermon JL More sermon Hello Readers, Today's service is opened by my dad with enthusiasm for the Beatitudes being studied in Sunday school. The song chosen, Dad remarks, is new as it was written in 1957 as compared to the age of the usual hymns chosen from 17 or 1800's. I recognized this hymn right away as mom and dad had taught it to me. I first sang it around my piano in Missouri. It was so nice to hear my sister on flute making her debut with Guitars Etc. I know my niece had gotten her a flute for Christmas one year, maybe that was the previous month? I have two sisters, one plays flute the other plays clarinet I will refer to them as such in this post.  My flute sister taught me how to hold and play the instrument when I was around 8 years old this gave me a lot of confidence to choose the flute when I was selected to play in the band.  At the end of fourth grade we all went to Mrs. Hinton the music teach...
