Hello Readers,
Today I spent sometime talking to my brother-in-law who celebrated a milestone birthday this week. We chated for over 30 minutes and covered some deep topics. I'm blessed to have 3 brothers by marriage - each bringing me joy.
When my parents got married they had a lot more people added to their family. My father had 3 sisters and 9 brothers while mom was close to 3 sisters and 2 brothers. When you consider also the spouses, the number in the extended family adds up quickly. As each individual family grew in size and the busyness of life took over it was important that everyone make an effort to see each other on a regular basis and thus the familiy reunions set in place.
Towards the end of August it was a tradition that my dad's family would meet at a church near the town where he was raised and where most of his family resided. Later when the family outgrew the chuch (I think that's the reason) the reunion was moved to a local park with picnic shelters. My mom's family had a similar reunion at someone's home - usually over Labor Day weekend.
My siblings and I are now holding the torch for our family. We are figuring out when and where we all get together. This past December the three sisters were together after Chrismas for a few days. This summer we have been gifted a place in Colorado for a week, two cabins a close friend owns. I am looking forward to hiking, taking in nature, and seeing beautiful vistas. As with all the above mentioned reunions there will be good food, an important requirement.
Thanks for reading.
Stay well,
Amy BH
