Brethren, We Have Met to Worship (Happy Fathers Day)
Dad opens The Gathering with brother-in-law on the violin, playing along with the guitar. A nice, lively tempo. A bit of a misstep on the start of verse two, the singers keep going, and Dad keeps strumming until he at last finds his footing -- "not to worry" (as he used to say)
Welcome/Announcements - sister mentions those working on a banner, with niece among them, to possibly be displayed at the annual conference that shows both the church history and some more current updates. Sister also announces the college choir's plea for donations. Dad clears up that he is not doing the children's sermon and that Josh is. Mom mentions the chartered train ride to Abilene, and Mom very confidently announces details about the ride and lunch afterward. Mom is very well-spoken, a talent I'm not sure she fully realized about herself. [I have seen pictures of mom and dad on this train ride with close friends, and mom told me how special a time it was; she treasured the photo, especially once the husband of the much younger couple passed away.]
Prelude - Violin solo with guitar accompaniment Near the Cross
Hymn - He Leadeth Me

Hello Readers,
This past weekend, I got to see Seth Meyers perform his comedy act with my sister and her husband. He talked about a variety of topics, including politicians, the first lady, and traveling across I70 in Missouri. By far my favorite topic was when he joked about his family. Many jokes centered around stories about his 3 young kids and their different personalities. One story was about how his daughter took after his wife's stubbornness.
At first, I thought I had never seen a comedian live before Seth Meyers opener, then I slowly remembered I had actually seen three others. Rich Little, when I was around 11 years old, my family saw him while my sister was attending Virginia Tech. I saw Steven Wright with my now husband while we were both attending Mary Washington College. My husband and I later saw Yakov Smirnoff at the University of Idaho when he was in graduate school. Each comedian had their own style, and I enjoyed all of them.
In today's service, I am glad to hear Mom's voice. Recently, I have rushed and not always taken the time to listen to each prayer request, joy, and announcement. I am thankful and blessed by my family and friends. For healing and time well spent with those I love.
Thanks for reading.
Stay well,
Amy BH
