Dad's 77th Birthday!

August 17 2008

At 4'10", Dad (later, he mentions no violin today) starts with jokes about the abilities of himself versus the musicians that are joining him on this fine, early, early fall day, he leads with This Is the Day

6'20" Delightfully, Mom is a worship leader and mentions having been on meds and having been traveling, and that she did something she said she would never do, she taught Sunday School. Mom starts announcements for Disaster Relief and various dates.

9' SB? announces about Loaves & Fishes - and herbs from their garden

9'44" mission trip opportunity to Kenya that the person has been with before, a non-denominational group (DM?)

11' a young person says their uncle is here from Washington, KS

11'30" my niece announces her grandfather's birthday today -- mom jokes she would have forgotten that one, and then points out another one coming up

12'10" Special Day Song (niece on piano?), dad and others? standing

13' Dad announces a switch (flute/violin are not available?) to the prelude, it will be sung - Blessed Assurance hymn

16'29" mom leads the Call to Worship/responsive reading

17'39" Open My Eyes That I May See

20'44" Mom leads the prayer to start the offering

21'20" Dad leads an offering hymn, Have Thine Own Way Lord

23' Doxology (niece on piano)

23'40" JL? prays over the offering

24'15" Children's Message (DM?)

34' Joys and Concerns one Big Anniv. celebration (Wayne and ??), 38'50" Dad says thanks to niece and others for filling in for my brother-in-law, who was dealing with a kidney stone. Dad also mentions Mom and her health issues (rash?).

43' Give Thanks

44'35 JL? leads in prayer

47'50" Mom reads the scripture from Matthew, "Jesus Sends a Demon Out of a Girl" - Mom is an amazing reader, I miss that so much. I can tell she took time to familiarize herself with the dialogue: she gave it life.

49'40" JL? leads the sermon - starting with some humorous observations about what is not said.

1 hour 4' Take My Life

1 hour 8' JL? ends with a prayer, and then a final verse of the hymn is sung

Dear Readers,

What joy to listen to both of my parents and my niece filling in with music, as my brother-in-law (JF) was unable to attend, as was planned. JF is ever the helper, so it is nice to see the favor being returned.

I love that it is Dad's birthday and Mom is leading worship, so much family involvement -- brings me joy.

Thanks for reading,

Stay well,

Amy BH
